  • Fellow of Institute of Engineers Ireland (F.I.E.I.)

INTERNATIONAL & NATIONAL ORGANIZATIONS:

  • Executive Representative on the European Council of Civil Engineers (2006-2009) which works for the interests of the European Civil Engineering Profession, makes representations to the European Union and European Governments on matters of Civil Engineering.
  • Council Member of Engineers Ireland (2006-2008), Institute of Civil Engineers of Ireland, which oversees the management of Engineers Ireland and approves policy
  • Engineers Ireland Mentor: Mentor to prospective Chartered Engineers.

PROFESSIONAL ACTIVITIES

    Responsibilities:  Carillion IrishEnco Construction is a leading heavy civil engineering company. The nature of the construction projects that Murt has overseen ranges from major bridges, harbour works, large dam, water and sewage treatment plants, large sea outfalls plus roads/motorways. 
  • Director - Production, Irishenco Construction Company, March 1996 – August 1998
    Responsibilities: Management of Contracts from estimating stage through production to final accounts.
  • Associate Production Director / Staff Representative on Board, 1995 – February 1996
  • Contracts Manager, 1993 - 1994

  • Project Manager, 1980 - 1990
  • Site Agent/Site Engineer, 1971 – 1980

OTHER PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE / QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Marine Diving Experience. Inspection of Marine Structures during Construction Stage
  • Cross-cultural work assignments:  Experience in multi-cultural work environments in West Africa and Ireland and on the European Council of Civil Engineers.
  • Regular Work for Council of Civil Engineers in Brussels (EU) on Health and Safety and other Construction related matters

INTERESTS:

  • Former Irish international marathon runner
  • Coach and mentor to senior international long and middle-distance athletes
  • Also enjoys music, reading, theatre and politics

A results driven Civil Engineering Senior Executive, with proven experience leading some of Ireland’s largest and most complex marine and heavy civil engineering projects. In addition to his directorship duties, Martin is an esteemed member of both the European Council of Civil Engineers, and a board member of Engineers Ireland. As a leading member in both councils, he regularly assists in providing industry expertise and advice to the European Union and Irish government officials and policy makers.
