PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE

After a period where his focus was on design of projects that included the UK’s largest coal fired power station, steelworks and power stations in the UK and overseas, the UK’s ballistic missile early warning system and various industrial and commercial developments in the UK and overseas, he moved to a newly created role of Business Development Director for Europe in 1990. In that role he established a number of offices and project partnerships in various countries of Central, Eastern and Western Europe. He was subsequently appointed to
the role of International Operations Director embracing activities in Europe, the Middle East, the Far East and the USA. He was Project Director for a wide range of projects ranging from power projects in Oman to a large industrial park in Egypt and the roll-out of the expansion plans for a major UK retail chain in Poland. David was involved with the development of the new structural steelwork code in the UK (prior to the introduction of Eurocodes) and was a specialist in the coated metal claddings. He lectured on both technical, commercial and
management themes (including the application of Private Public Partnerships) in the UK, Europe and the USA, and has given occasional lectures at various universities in the UK.

David retired in 2003 and formed his own consultancy where he provides specialist services on international markets to Government and private clients. He has led approaching 20 trade missions to countries in Europe, the USA, the Middle East and Far East on construction related issues and has written a number of reports on market opportunities in various countries. He has also written a recent confidential report for a UK Government department on the issues surrounding design, product and material specifications in the construction sector.

During his career he has visited approximately 70 countries on business. He is Chairman of the Europe Committee of the Institution of Civil Engineers and a member of their International Policy Committee, and this year he is Chairman of British Expertise, a Trade Association that represents and promotes the interests of UK construction related companies that are engaged in the export of services. Within the local community, David is a District Councillor, and a trustee of various local organisations.
